Benefits of CF Complete the Most Advanced Cystic Fibrosis Test
| |
Automated, full length sequencing of the CF gene |
| |
Detects 99% of the 1,006 currently known CF mutations |
| |
Detects CF mutations not found in routine screening |
| |
Identifies rare familial CF mutations |

Complements, but does not replace, the routine CF screening panel recommended by ACMG and ACOG. |
Clinical Summary
| |
Cystic fibrosis is an autosomal recessive disease that affects approximately 1 in 2,500 Caucasians of Northern European descent. It also occurs in other ethnic groups, but at a lower incidence. |
| |
To date, more than 1,000 disease-causing mutations have been identified. Routine carrier screening detects 25 of these mutations and 6 polymorphisms, identifying a maximum of 97% of carriers (Ashkenazi Jewish population). In other populations, the detection rate can be substantially lower (eg, only 57% in the Hispanic-American population). |
| |
Use of the CF Complete test, however, can dramatically increase the CF detection rate because it detects all but 13 of the currently known 1,006 mutations. Nevertheless, the CF Complete test should not replace the general carrier screen test. Rather, the CF Complete test should be used to identify rare familial mutations in obligate CF carriers when they have tested negative in the routine screening test. |
| |
CF Complete should also be used to identify a rare mutation in a CF-affected person when that person has tested negative in the routine screen. |
The Industry Leader in Genetic Testing
Upholding a tradition of innovation, Quest Diagnostics is the first clinical laboratory to offer testing that sequences the entire cystic fibrosis gene. CF Complete is part of a full range of cystic fibrosis testing services that includes both screening and diagnostic tests.
